President Donald Trump will host the federal government's first Crypto Summit on Friday, marking a new era for digital financial technology following years of regulatory friction.
"After the previous administration unfairly prosecuted the digital asset space, President Trump’s policy vision represents a new era for digital financial technology." — White House official statement.
The summit coincides with a stabilization in crypto prices and a shift at the SEC, currently helmed by Mark T. Uyeda. Recent weeks have seen the withdrawal of investigations into Gemini, OpenSea, and others. Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss noted on X that while this is a milestone, it does little to repair the past damage done to the industry.
The announcement saw Bitcoin rise about 2.4% in 24 hours, while Trump's associated memecoin surged 18% from its Friday low to approximately $13.28.
